Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect from my $24.95 introductory lesson?

During your lesson you will learn several elements, understand how they are interrelated, and dance them successfully to music. You might be able to learn many elements during a single lesson however; we suggest you focus on repeating a few and improving the technique which is characteristic of the dance. Every dance may have a box step, but they do not all look alike! Your instructor uses this as an opportunity to assess your skills and understand your goals and learning style in order to recommend the most appropriate program level to fit your needs going forward should you decide you would like to continue exploring all that dance has to offer. If you are already an experienced dancer your instructor will conduct an evaluation in order to recommend a program suitable for your skill level.

How much can I learn in five private lessons?

After completion of your five private lessons a beginning dancer should feel the self consciousness melting away and be growing more comfortable dancing basic patterns in a couple of dances. If you prefer, you can focus on one dance or style to maximize your execution of the technique and characteristics of that single dance or style on the dance floor. If you choose to learn multiple dances, your instructor will show you how to interrelate patterns to speed your learning curve.

How do I choose between private lessons and group classes?

We encourage you to learn in both ways.

Private lessons provide you with the quickest way to learn and are tailored to your busy schedule. Receive the complete and individualized attention of your instructor, allowing you to learn at your own pace and using the methods of teaching that are best suited to your style of learning to help you gain the most progress and meet your goals of improving your dancing.

Your instructor will focus with you on areas you find to be a challenge, so your dancing can be frustration free and your skill level continues to progress. By providing you undivided attention, your chances of developing bad habits can be addressed and minimized, creating a stronger foundation of better dancing and technique!

Group classes may feel a little overwhelming to beginning dancers, which is why Dance Forever offers a variety of levels and styles. Our friendly and fun group classes are taught by experienced instructors throughout the week, offering a value priced opportunity for you to sample different styles of dance and partners. Group classes will be focused on patterns allowing you to learn your individual parts quickly and confidently, and are a terrific for identifying areas of attention to address effectively in your private lesson where you may learn additional variations and styling.

Your instructor will assist you in planning your dance program and suggesting your participation in the events that will enhance your learning the most. Taking classes with students of a similar skill level will build your confidence and allow you the necessary practice to reinforce what you are learning in your private lessons. Practice is the way to progress!

You may find group classes not to be appropriately paced for your learning style; however, group classes are a wonderful supplement to your private lessons where you will develop technique and skills on a more immediate basis. Group classes will help you to remember steps, adjust to partnering with others, and develop the essential skill of good floor craft for dancing in situations where you must navigate a floor with other dancing couples. If your goal is to learn to dance exclusively through group lessons, changing partners frequently will help to build your lead and follow skills. Everyone is encouraged to ask questions when the instructor frequently and periodically prompts the group.

We are happy to offer customized beginners to intermediates group classes for your group of 5 or more individuals, a perfectly suitable idea for clubs, kids of all ages, parties and more.

We offer progressive workshop style classes that will build on previous classes, in addition to an all levels drop in class immediately preceding the weekly social dance

What do I wear to a dance lesson?

Everyday attire is appropriate for dancing; however jeans are constricting and are not suggested. If you do not have a pair of ballroom dance shoes yet, a light dress shoe with a leather sole is best. Please do not wear rubber-soles, open backs, flip flops/sandals, or metal spike-heels for safety reasons. Ladies should ensure heel taps conceal the tacks.

When you are ready to purchase dance shoes, we recommend On Pointe Dancewear & More. They are family owned and operated, very helpful and friendly and have provided outstanding customer service with the widest variety of styles and price points for customers choose from.
